In The Dark

Every day I balance
light and darkness,
babies and art,
solitude and people I long to see.
These moments, alone in the dark,
looking at a photograph
from a day when I got dressed
and made it out into the world,
yes, this silent 10:37pm poem
is worth the bone tired dizzy I'll feel
tomorrow as I grapple with 6am
because at least I have a moment
to examine
the ticking of my heart
and to say thank you
to infinity.
Yes, I need these moments alone
in the dark
and I need those two babies
waking me with powerful cries,
teaching me the world again
each morning.
